The Paradox of Borders: Tracing the Clip of Laika the Soviet Dog in Three Digital Television Archives

Mary-Joy van der Deure is a junior researcher at Utrecht University. She has completed the Research Master programme Media, Arts and Performance Studies at Utrecht University with a thesis on the materiality of digital, audio-visual heritage. She has contributed to the CLICK-NL Project “Re-Frame” on AI for Re-Use in Audio-Visual Archives, and is currently working on the “CLARIAH Media Suite” infrastructure for Audio-Visual Archives and the “AI TaDa” project on Digitized Broadcast Magazines.

Jasmijn Van Gorp is assistant professor at the Media and Culture department of Utrecht University. Her work is situated at the crossroads of Audiovisual Archives and Digital Methods. Currently, she co-leads the Dutch CLARIAH Media Suite infrastructure for Audiovisual Archives, and the Re-Frame project on Re-Use and AI in Journalism Practice.

Alec Badenoch is Professor (by special appointment) of Transnational Media at the Free University of Amsterdam, endowed by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and Assistant Professor in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Utrecht. As Professor he is currently principle investigator on the European project “Polyvocal Interpretations of Contested Colonial Heritage” and at Utrecht he was in the development team for the CLARIAH Media Suite with a focus on internationalization. His current research focuses on the intersections of global feminism and broadcasting in 20th Century history, and on the analysis and development of digital archive infrastructures in the transnational heritage landscape.
